“Humour
is mankind's greatest blessing.”
Mark
Twain
We all have
met them once or more in life, the sourpuss people. Just looking at them
plunges you in a sense of gloom. No sense of humour or wit. I always try hard
to understand why people are who they are, and why they do what they, but I
never wanted to, nor will I ever attempt to try and understand why some people
are such sourpusses. As if life is not hard enough! Some people just cannot
stand humour; others, like Mahatma Gandhi, say that if he had no sense of
humour, he would long ago have committed suicide. William Arthur Ward had it
smack on when he said that a well-developed sense of humour is the pole that
adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life. If you are a
humorous person then you can lighten life’s load by bringing some humour to
your trials and tribulations. Even Maya Angelou’s mission in life is not merely
to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion,
some humour, and some style. Sir Francis Bacon said that imagination was given
to humanity to compensate them for what they are not; a sense of humour was
given to them to console them for what they are. Put some humour in your life,
it will surely make your life, and that of others, less dull.
I
observe him, and then I observe her.
It’s
always interesting the things they do and say,
the
seriousness, the laughter and in-between some silly play,
but
never short of a good portion of humour.

“Humor
is die mens se grootste seëning.”
Mark
Twain
Ek doen my beste om mense
Mahatma Gandhi kon; hy the gesê dat as hy
andere, verseker minder sieldodend maak.
Mensig,
Waar is
jou humor en blymoedige gees?
Jy – Bitterbek
suurknol-mens…
Daar is
soveel humor wat ek vir jou toewens.
