“Nobody loves life
like him that’s grown old.”
Sophocles
Our topic for the day is age, and the question is: How do you perceive your
age? Do you, at this stage in your life, regret many things that you failed to
do during your earlier years? Some think that when regrets start taking the
place of dreams, it is then that one becomes old. Can we truly ever be too old
to stop dreaming? I think that we should always be twenty years younger than
our true age. What do you think? Having such a view will surely always keep you
young, if the body permits… If we consider the fleetness of time, and
everything in the world that is there still to be learned and to be
experienced, then surely I wish to become as old as Methuselah himself. Time is
indeed one’s “enemy”, but after a long life, you may look back and see how time
treated you well, maybe not in body, but surely in spirit. Seneca (the Roman
statesman and Philosopher) wants to convince us that old age is an incurable
disease. Incurable yes, but in my eyes, not a disease at all. So many, myself
included, may wish to be young again, but then, in looking back, having gone
through all I went through, why then wish oneself young again. Much better to
look forward and embrace the time left on this earth. Better to live life to
its fullest and embrace everything that comes with old age. You stop living the
day you die, so until you have not yet breathed your last breath, embrace your
age with dignity and LIVE life to the fullest of your capacity.
Every day we turn
another page
of the book we
write, named “OLD AGE”.
Let this book
reflect a life lived with grace,
one lived with a
joyous and thankful pace.
