How Ethical Are You?

“We have the minds of giants, but the ethics of infants.”

We invent, we build, and we traverse the stars and observe outer space. We are clever beings beyond comprehension and as such, we place ourselves at the top of the phylogenetic ladder of existence. We are the main predator and the dominant species when it comes to conquering and adapting, yet we are also the species who excel at the game of destruction.

We surpass all other known species in the field of growth and innovation, but I will not dare say that this is the case when it comes to our ethical gameplay. We kill, we maim, we hurt one another, we disrespect our fellow human beings and we disrespect nature by large. Think only about the way our elderly people and children are being treated – we are still predominantly infantile when measured on an ethical scale.

To be ethical implies to be in accordance with the accepted principles of right and wrong conduct, and it is through education, which Hegel says, that mankind is made an ethical being; goodness is a product of the ethical artistry of individuals. It is a sorry state of affairs that we are not as ethical as we are supposed to be. Make it a habit to pursue an ethical life, teach yourself more about ethics and morals, and apply that in your everyday existence. To pursue and uphold a level of ethical excellence is not difficult, focus today and every other day on attaining a healthy degree of ethicality in your life, after all, is not a peaceful mutual coexistence of all living beings one of life’s primary purposes? You answer that for yourself.

We err in our moral make-up
but excel in our inventions,
if only we would take up
better ethical and moral intentions…
