“Dare to
live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams
come true.”
Ralph Waldo
Emerson
When I refer to dreams, I am not referring to
what we experience when our eyes are closed during moments of rest. I will not
even dare to attempt to do that because why we dream is still one of the behavioral
sciences’ greatest unanswered questions. Nonetheless, Edgar Allan Poe once said
that those who dream by day are aware of many things which escape those who
dream only by night.
It is important in life to pursue one’s dreams.
From when we are little, we dream about becoming someone or achieving
something great. We dream of meeting a life partner or changing the world in
some manner for the good of humanity. To foster such dreams is healthy, but we
have to make attempts at making them come true. It is, however, not healthy to
dwell only on dreams and in the process forget to live! Yet, sometimes our
dreams do not materialise, for whatever reason.
Paulo Coelho reminds us that all dreams can
come true, the only single thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve is
the fear of failure. Remember that. Also, remember that you determine your own
path in life, so don’t let anybody snuff your dreams by telling you that you
were not destined to become/achieve this/that. Keep your dreams realistic and
trust your inner guidance. Finally, heed the words of Aristotle who said that
hope is a waking dream…
Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly
