The Unity of a Family

“As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.”
Pope John Paul II

One of the many truths we cannot get around is the one that we do not know what we have until it is lost. With family, this is equally true, and that made me think of Germaine Greer who said that the only perfect love to be found on earth is not sexual love, which is riddled with hostility and insecurity, but the wordless commitment of families and familial love. It has been said that it does not matter how many communities anybody invents, the family will always creep back.
There are those who question the logicality of family units. I am a proponent of questioning everything, but I fail to see the reason behind questioning something as pure as that of the unity of a family. In any case, people may question the family unit as much as they like, but we will hardly ever escape the tentacles of the family unit, for the family itself is truly a masterpiece to behold.
Sometimes, when everything seems to fall out of place, the people who tend to stand with you, without giving a single flinch, are your family, and this I can fully relate to. Today, I ask of you one simple thing, to rethink the value of your family. Always cherish your family, not only your close family but also your wider family, for at the end of the day you are all connected by the same blood. Do not take this for granted, bury your hatchets, they are not worth carrying around. Remember, you only have this one life to live, and you only have that one family, so cherish everybody, and cherish the relations as well as everything in it.

Something very important to me
is the value of a family,
remember, they will not always be there,
so love and happiness is what we need to share.
