“The quality of decision is like the well-timed swoop of a
falcon which enables it to strike and destroy its victim.”
Sun Tzu
Think about it, our daily existence is
made up of a continuation of decision-making moments. This post did not
magically open and forced itself down on you, no, you decided to open the
link/page and read the content. Decision-making, so why is it worthy of a
discussion? Well, the important thing to keep in mind is that our decisions
will surely alter our lives, to whatever degree it may be. Sometimes it's even
the smallest decisions that can change our lives forever. Every door you open
and every window you close will have an impact on your life. This impact may
either be negative or positive. The important thing to remember is that we have
to take responsibility for our choices; this is something that many people fail
to do. There is a Chinese proverb saying that it is a wise man who makes his
own decisions, but it is an ignorant man who follows public opinion. The
past is a rich resource on which we can draw when making decisions for the
future. The past should, however, never dictate the choices we make in the
present. Always select what is good from the past when making decisions, and
leave behind what is bad. Something else to keep in mind is that decisions are
not always steadfast. There is a Samoan proverb telling us that a decision made
at night may be changed in the morning. Nothing wrong in altering any decisions
you made, but stay committed to your decisions, yet flexible in your approach,
and never forget that making decisions is easy, living with it is the hard part.
There is not a single thing in your daily walk
on this planet that you do without deciding to do it. I started with Sun Tzu,
and I will, therefore, end with him by reiterating what he initially said –
when making decisions, make sure that your decisions are quality-driven. This will
contribute to living a quality-driven life.
Every day is an
unending making of decisions,
should I do this or should I do that?
It feels as if we’re on unending missions
that sometimes make us feel so flat...
