Boredom!

“Too much rest becomes a pain”
Homer

Let us, for a moment, ponder the words of Homer, who lived thousands of years ago and who was the apparent author of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Good, did you ponder enough? So, today I am going to look at boredom, and I am going to start by saying that I am fully convinced that life is a billion times too short to even consider being bored? I hope I am not boring you! Oh my goodness, there is so much that you can do in this life, in fact, there is so much to be done in so little time. How can you even not know what to do with yourself on a rainy afternoon, or with all the possibilities at hand? Voltaire once said that repose (that is, rest) is a good thing, but that boredom is its brother. We should cut our ties with this family member because boredom is nothing else than a thief, robbing you from your time, that precious time that could have been used to make this world a better place.

Rather than opening yourself up to boredom, you can rather reach out to a person in need, you can spend that time with a loved one. You can go and plant something. Do something productive – NO, I do not mean go and catch up on the last six episodes of your favourite TV series… What’s so productive in that? Make, bake or go buy something and surprise a grandparent with an unexpected gift. Come on, don’t give in to boredom. Boredom is mostly due to a lack of inner creativity, preventing us from using all the resources to our availability for something good. It prevents you from creating goals, so, in periods of boredom, you cannot be productive because you have no goal in sight. Don’t entertain boredom, before you know it, you may be too old to do the things you otherwise could have done in times of boredom. Let us utilize our time to its fullest capacity by being productive, strive to eradicate any episodes which may be the beginning of a session of boredom.

I am sitting here, actually bored to death,
my inner drive is gone…
Come on, I haven't breathed my last breath,
there are still a lot of constructive things that can be done...
