Integrity...

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

What is it that makes you rich? Surely NOT that which surrounds us in the form of lifeless things! That which comes from within us makes us rich because it has eternal value. Henry Ward Beecher, the American clergyman and social reformer, once said that a reputation for good judgment, for fair dealing, for truth, and for rectitude, is itself a fortune. It is things like these that enrich us, and because thinking constitute our lives, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE THINK RIGHT, FOR WE NEED TO LIVE THE WAY WE THINK OR WE WILL END UP THINKING THE WAY WE LIVE. I did not capitalise the words because it looks better this way. No, what he says here is the core, is the essence of this blog. For us to rethink life, but also to think right.

W. Clement Stone, who was a businessman, philanthropist and self-help author, ask that we will have the courage to say no; to have the courage to face the truth and to do the right thing simply because doing it is the right thing to do, for no other reason. These are the magical keys you will require to live your life with integrity.

The British biologist and anthropologist from the 19th-century, Thomas Huxley was of the opinion that there is no alleviation for the suffering of mankind except for veracity of thought and of action, and the resolute facing of the world as it is when the garment of make-believe, by which pious hands have hidden its uglier features is stripped off. If you want your suffering to stop, you have to face a mask-less world.

So to look at the initial question again: our wealth in life is not found in the things we collect, but in who we are and the values we embrace through life. Let us rethink where we stand with regard to our level of goodness and integrity, and then embrace the motto of Buffalo Bill by being true to friends and foes alike and to nourish our integrity.

Integrity!
An integral necessity for you and me
if we want to create a community
in which we can live without fear, blissful and free.
